Q: How do I choose a web designer?

A:  Investing in the right web designer for your business is crucial.  Your website is often where a potential customer gets their first impression of your business.  You only get one shot, and it’s important to make sure that first impression is a good one.

We create beautiful, high-impact and affordable HTML5 designs using a robust platform.  Each client we work with gets the personal attention and dedication of an artist who is committed to helping them succeed.  We do what it takes to not only meet, but to exceed most client’s expectations.

Schedule a no-strings-attached consultation to see what happens next.

When designing and building a website, mobile site or app, we always start with a dialog with our client. It basically boils down to one question – what do you need your web site to be for your business? That’s a big question, one you may or may not know the answer to. But don’t worry, we’ll get there with smaller ones. Once we have established your needs, we get to work on the aesthetic web design, and after everybody is happy with the “look and feel” of it, it is fully developed, tested and published to the web. Here is what we offer:

If you are a business with your own development team, you might just want to hire us to do the visual design for your site. We can wireframe, design the user interface and style and then hand it off to your dev team to code and implement. Deliverables include: Photoshop files, graphics and fonts.

Smartphones and tablets are rapidly changing the way consumers get information. If your customers are using these devices to reach your website, then you should want to give them the most optimized experience possible. We design and code your mobile site to load quickly and look great on a smaller screen so that your customers can get your info on the go.

Want a site that you can easily update yourself? Do you need a blog as part of your web solution? Then a content management system, such as WordPress might be what you’re looking for.

Do you plan on using your site to sell products or services? You need an e-commerce solution. We can design the look of the site as well as the user experience from the homepage through the final point of sale, develop, test and publish.

Some businesses know exactly what they want to say on their site. Some don’t. If you happen to be in the latter camp, we will find the words that may elude you. If you’re interested in search engine optimization (SEO,) we can even work in those magic keywords that will get you found in search results.

Inbound marketing is the new advertising. People have gotten very good at blocking out advertising interruptions. That’s why customers finding YOU rather than the other way around is becoming more and more necessary. The best way to do this is to be searchable. While we can’t guarantee that you will end up in the first page of internet searches, we can take all the right steps to ensure that you are highly visible to Google and other search engines, which will make you more visible to your customers.

If you don’t already have a domain name or hosting, we can be your all in one solution.

If you don’t have a development team, and you don’t want to go through the learning curve to maintain your own site, it might make sense for us to do it for you. We can maintain your site and make updates as often as you need them.

    Step 1: The Initial Consultation
When we first meet with a new web design client, we have a lot of questions. These questions are designed to not only figure out your personal style preferences, but also to get to the heart of what it is you need your website to be for your business. To be more specific, we need to know about your customers or website visitors and what they expect out of your website. After all, its great if you love your new site, but if your customers don’t find it useful, it won’t do you or your business much good. Here are some questions you can expect to be asked:

    Who are your main competitors?
What sets your business apart from your competitors?
Can you describe your target customer?
What is the main specific goal for the website?
What are some existing website designs that you like and why?
What specific functionalities would you like included on your website design?
Once we have the answers to these and other questions, we are ready to move onto the next step in the web design process.

    Step 2: Discovery
Once we know our clients’ needs for their website design, we have a bit of researching to do. This is where we put together a plan of action based on your customer profile, your competition and what you need to accomplish. We look at what works in your specific niche, and we even look at what others are doing wrong, and see where we can succeed where others have failed.

We also decide what technologies make sense for your website and make a plan for how to include them into the web design.

    Step 3: Site Architecture Planning
Once we have gathered all the necessary information, we can begin giving your website its structure. We do this in a process called wireframing. The goal of wireframing is to determine the overall organization, page hierarchy and linking structure. We analyze your unique needs, and we implement accepted best practices to ensure that your website design has a consistent and logical flow.

This is a critical step. It is in the planning phase where the usability of the website is designed. Bad usability sends potential customers running, while an easy to use website can keep them around longer, turning them from “potentials” into “customers.” After the overall structure of the design is nailed down, we can get on with the fun part.

    Step 4: Visual Web Design
This is where we take the organization from the previous step and make it come to life in a visually appealing way. Good web design should make it easy for website visitors to know what to do and where to go in an instinctive way. We are able to use our abundant creative resources to make a custom website design that not only looks great, but is appropriate to your business and your end users.

We start by designing the homepage. It is a logical first step, since the homepage is almost always the first impression your site will make on your customers. It is here that we determine the color scheme, fonts and overall style that will carry across the site as a whole. Once we have the homepage designed, we present it to our client for approval. Since the web design process is a collaborative one, we welcome feedback from our clients as we hone in on the final design. Most websites go through an evolution during this process as we gather this feedback and use it to improve the overall design to meet our clients’ needs. We promise to always provide expert advice to our clients if we feel something they are asking for is not in the best interest of the project and their business.

Once the homepage is locked in and signed off on by our client, we begin designing a sample internal page for similar approval. After this is complete and signed off on, we can begin the web design of the entire site. Throughout the process, there is always an open dialogue and collaboration between us and our clients. Changes are made as necessary, until we focus in on the final approved website design.

    Step 5: Website Development
Being the final phase, this where everything comes together and the real magic happens. Creative design meets the most up-to-date technology when our development team brings our designs to life. Now is when we get to implement all the functionalities that we have planned from the discovery phase and see them in action.

Once the development is finished to our standards, we then put it through its paces and test in all of the major web browsers to ensure that it will work for your customers. All of this testing is done on our own servers, and once it has passed all of the necessary tests, and is approved by our client, it is then transferred to their own web host, and tested once again for any remaining issues. Then in the final magic moment, it is made live and visible for all the internet to see.

At The Deep End, our specialty is designing and building custom websites that our clients can confidently control themselves. Imagine having your site go live, then be able to add and change content as often as you like. By being in the drivers’ seat, you can keep your site growing and changing as your business changes, all without the extra expense of hiring us to do it for you.

And the best part is, you don’t even need any existing coding knowledge to do it. It is as simple as logging into your website’s admin area, clicking on the page you would like to edit and type it into a user-friendly text editor. In short, if you can use Microsoft Word, you can update your new website. Do you run an e-commerce site? Imagine being able to quickly and easily add new items, including photos and descriptions in minutes. At The Deep End, that is exactly what we do.

Even if you don’t run an online store, there are countless benefits of being able to add and change your website’s content. We always recommend including a blog as part of your website strategy, as keeping your website’s content growing is a surefire way to search engine success. Engines like Google love to see a website that continuously expands, and businesses that follow this model almost always see increased rankings.

A lot of businesses have an “about us” or team page that focus on their employees. If a content management system is a part of the web design, you can add or delete employees from the site as they come and go without having to wait for a third party to do it for you.

As you can see, these are just a few examples of website elements that you would want to be able to control, and since every site is different, you will probably have your own areas that you will want to be able to edit on a regular basis. The websites we provide our clients with always have this functionality built in from the ground up.
